Challenges to HRM during COVID-19

The spread of COVID-19 creates disruption, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity in all organizations and coronavirus affects our personal and professional lives. People are the primary asset of any organization and help achieve its goals and objectives. In order to ensure the achievement of organizational goals in a time of crisis, strategic agility is required. Organizations need to be able to prepare and allocate their resources to coordinate the needed mechanism and to properly use the organizational resources and knowledge (Liu, 2020).

The covid-19 pandemic has forced the entire world to come under the rule of quarantine commands. Timely, governmental guidelines to avoid physical contact with other humans have created fear among all humans and Covid-19 has impacted every business sector around the world (Sulaiman & Shabbir, 2020).

The HR challenges managers face vary with their company’s location, sector, and size, but it is clear that many businesses will have to tighten their belts. HRM challenges during covid include organizing people to work remotely, supporting employees’ mental health and well-being, and motivating and engaging employees. Furthermore, instead of laying off workers or slashing wages, companies are seeking alternate corporate strategies such as using technology to support work-from-home or reviewing costs to stretch the budget (Factorial-HR, 2022).

As we all that there are some advantages and disadvantages are always there in this (COVID-19) pandemic situation, people are more collaborating with their families usually sometimes they are so busy with their work that they cannot make time for their family, but now this pandemic situation is there, and they have more time for their personal as well as professional life.

HR managers and organizations are facing several challenges to overcoming this pandemic situation. There are some steps listed below, all employers/HRM can take to reduce employees’ risk of exposure to COVID-19 (OSHA, 2020).

  • Develop an Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response Plan
  • Prepare to Implement Basic Infection Prevention Measures
  • Develop Policies and Procedures for Prompt Identification and Isolation of Sick People, if Appropriate
  • Develop, Implement, and Communicate about Workplace Flexibilities and Protections
  • Implement Workplace Controls
  • Engineering Controls
  • Administrative Controls
  • Safe Work Practices
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Follow Existing OSHA Standards

Conclusion

As we all know COVID-19 pandemic situation was unexpected for everyone no one was ready for that. While expressing the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis, outlines the strategies of human resource management that should be used by organization managers to increase satisfaction, productivity, motivation, welfare, and health of employees, adapt to change in the workplace by creating better working conditions, talent management, and flexibility (RezaAzizi, 2021).
